Marty Koresawa is an experienced patent litigator, who has successfully handled all phases of intellectual property disputes for patentees and accused infringers involving, among other things, medical devices, biotechnology, clean energy, image processing, and cryptography.

Prior to joining Holland Law, Marty was an intellectual property associate at a global Amlaw 100 firm.  There, he was part of case teams that handled matters before district courts, the International Trade Commission, and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.  While in law school, Marty served as an articles editor on the Loyola Law Review.

Marty’s experience has allowed him to assist clients in navigating the complexities of patent litigation and offer solutions to mitigate risks and further business objectives.

Notable Engagements

  • Defended medical device companies accused of infringing patents directed to oligonucleotides for the detection of HIV-1 and their use in a district court litigation.  Asserted patents were invalidated after a jury trial.
  • Defended a medical device company accused of infringing patents directed to nucleic acid enrichment technologies in a district court litigation.  Obtained stipulation of non-infringement after favorable claim construction.
  • Represented a medical device company asserting patents directed to breast imaging technologies at the International Trade Commission.  Obtained exclusion order after evidentiary hearing.
  • Counseled client regarding potential risks regarding asserting patents directed to internet technologies.
  • Represented a company seeking ex parte reexamination of patents directed to biological sample preparation that had been asserted in a district court litigation.  The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office instituted reexamination.
  • Represented a manufacturer of infant warmers in a litigation involving patent infringement, trade secret misappropriation, and antitrust issues.  Obtained favorable settlement pre-trial.
